I haven’t fully embraced the phenomenon that is twitter yet, but every once in a while I will log on and nibble on some tidbits. I’ve amassed a list of 50 people that I follow and one of them is ecomagination (an initiative by GE to produce green products). Recently they tweeted that 39% of leadership positions in the sustainability sector belong to women. How marvelous is that? Sadly they did not delve into why this sector is more female-dominated than other high tech sectors.
Luckily for you, I have a couple of theories. The first is that women are more passionate about the environment and conservation of resources. Makes me feel good about my gender, but is seems like a subjective thing that would be hard to prove and might offend some menfolk. My second theory is that it’s a newer industry and there is less old-boys’ club for the ladies to overcome. My money is on theory #2. What do you think? Do you have your own theory?
